Quiet roads for driving lessons near M5 4BE?

I'm thinking of hiring a dual control car from Arnold Clarke in Salford/Manchester (M5 4BE). What are the nearest quietest, out of the way roads that my girlfriend could practice on? Anyone else used this service before? Any good?
