Why is society degrading itself so much?

Everyday in the news we hear about rapes and terrorist acts. But nowadays people act like it is completely normal. You would expect to see at least emotion from the newscasters but all u see are a bunch of bimbos going on and on about political scandals, I mean what happened to the real news, what happened to the victims. You won't hear about a case from the news channels unless it is sensational. What are your thoughts about how emotionless and uncaring the world has really become!!
